When pressed about Obama’s plans to travel overseas to promote trade and TPP ambitions, and whether a Clinton Administration would support TPP, Tim Kaine, the Democratic party’s vice presidential nominee, told Chuck Todd, on NBC’s “Meet the Press” today that “he wasn’t sure whether they would support a version of TPP.” His stunning comments show a serious flip-flop on this major issue by the two Democrats.
Hillary Clinton has already flipped back-and-forth on this matter. She once called TPP the “Gold Standard” for trade arrangements. She denied saying this at the second debate and then only conceded the point once her attention was directed to a video that captured her saying it. Kaine’s comments represent the third flip-flop on the TPP issue for Clinton in less than a year.
