A jury has found Aaron Hernandez guilty of first-degree murder, and he is now likely facing a life sentence without the possibility of parole. The case was riddled with circumstantial evidence, all of which was challenged by the defense. A video of the victim, Odin Lloyd, was shown to the jury depicting Lloyd, the defendant, and his two friends, Carlos Ortiz, and Ernest Wallace, leaving together in a vehicle shortly before the murder. The friends will stand trial for murder later this year. Hernandez’s former boss, the owner of the NFL team, the Patriots, testified that he met with Hernandez after the incident and that Hernandez had denied participating in the murder but shared his knowledge of the timing of the killing, a fact not known to the general public- this knowledge was very damaging. The case will almost certainly be appealed.
