!ADIOS AMERICA!: BOOK REVIEW

Ann Coulter minces no words when she severely attacks Immigration policies presently existing in the U.S. Her primary claim is that Democrats are pushing for less restrictive immigration rules in the country because growing illegal Immigrants, morphs into large blocs of votes for the Democrats (Her secondary argument is that loose immigration policies serve the rich because immigrants work for smaller wages, including nannies). The theory is that many elections are decided by thin margins (e.g., Gore/Bush), and millions of Immigrants could tip the vote total in favor of the Democrats. The Immigration issue is a hot button these days. A recent story in Politico reported on President Obama’s latest judicial effort to halt the deportation of illegal Immigrants through the use of his administrative powers.

[Two of the three appeals court judges who heard oral arguments Friday on the Obama administration’s immigration programs were skeptical about the legal merits of the directive, which could halt deportations for more than 4 million immigrants here illegally who have family ties in the United States.]

Obama has argued that the move fell within the discretionary purview of prosecutor discretion, however, Judge Jerry Smith, of the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals, as reported in Politico, questioned this angle.

In her book, “iadios America!”, Coulter painstakingly reports on what she perceives to be immigration problems across the country, from the Somalia  “cabdriver” and ISIS problems in Minneapolis, “Anchor Babies”- particularly in the border states (“two-thirds of the babies born at taxpayer expense in county-run hospitals in Los Angeles are born to illegal alien mothers”), President Carter’s importation of Cuban criminals in the 1980’s, the disproportionate number of illegal immigrants in U.S. prisons, the failure of immigrants to assimilate, the medias failure to honestly report on immigration/crime issues (particularly the New York Times who Coulter says is run by Mexican billionaire, Carlos Slim, who financially bailed the Times out of their downward financial crisis.) and the shortcomings of the existing Presidential contenders on immigration issues. To be sure, Coulter is unabashed in her criticisms, and seems to stray pretty far out at times, but she does provide footnotes, and it should be remembered that she is a Republican enthusiast. One also has to remember, when discussing, in particular, Mexican/U.S. immigration policy, it was not too long ago, when Mexico lost about half of her land to America following the war and Treaty between the two countries. In all, the book is not bad, but it reads like a statistical almanac at times, and is certain to piss off liberals, but politics aside, I can recommend the book.
