I wrote a brief review of Charles Krauthammer’s book, “Things that Matter” last year, not knowing much about the man. This past year, I have taken an interest in the Republican primary, mainly, the candidacy of Donald Trump; highhandedly, but distinctly, he has re-engineered the rules and expectations that typically engulfed this usually mundane process. My interest in Trump brought me to Fox News and Krauthammer who is promoted as an intellectual, in the same manner, that Andrew P. Napolitano, a former judge, is showcased as the resident judicial scholar: I think Fox News is guilty of a little false advertising on both accounts.
In the book review, I wrote how Krauthammer sized politicians up. I said, “Occasionally using his psychiatric background; he mocks the practice of journalists and others for trying to understand the “inner life” (or soul) of political leaders (Such as President Nixon). Instead, he emphatically declares that politicians should be viewed from the angle of “what they do and judge them by their works.” After listening to him babble on Fox News about how worthless Trump is whenever he is asked about him, I have now decided that he doesn’t practice what he preaches. He hasn’t judged Trump by what he has done or by his accomplishments—rather he has only jumped on the liberal bus and preached their message: Trump is racist; Trump is ignorant on foreign policy; Trump is bad for women– blah, blah, blah. He predicts that Trump will lose by margins greater than Goldwater, but he cannot account for Trump’s success thus far. I think Krauthammer is jealous of Donald Trump and does not have a clue when it comes to this election.
