During a speech that lasted about one-half hour, before democratic enthusiasts in Virginia yesterday, Presidential candidate Hillary Clinton, following the killings at the Charleston church, wasted no time attacking Republicans for defeating a measure that would permit research by the Center for Disease Control on the underlying cause of gun violence. An amendment sponsored by liberal congresswoman Nita Lowey (D-N.Y.), was struck down 19-32 by the House Appropriations Committee. Clinton’s comments as reported by The Washington Post were:
[Likewise, she chided House Republicans for voting this week to restrict research on gun violence.
“How can you watch massacre after massacre and take that vote?” she asked.]
Citizens who support the Second Amendment’s provisions regarding the right to bear arms, widely believe that the amendment was just another attempt to restrict or control a citizen’s rights under the guise of research.
