CNN cut ties with Jeffrey Lord, a conservative host who threw his support to Donald Trump’s Presidential campaign from the earliest days. Throughout Lord’s tenure at CNN, he was out -numbered by Hillary Clinton advocates and other left-leaning hosts and commentators.
Lord’s pink slip from the cable network was put in motion after he tweeted “Seig Heil” in response to remarks made by Angelo Carusone, the president of Media Matters, a liberal media outlet.
A CNN spokesperson said in a statement: “Nazi salutes are indefensible. Jeffrey Lord is no longer with the network.”
Mr. Lord and Mr. Carusone have frequently exchanged barbs via Twitter and other social media outlets. Media Matters has criticized CNN for hiring Lord and Lord has blasted Carusone on a frequent basis, including the organization’s financial backing from billionaire George Soros, an ultra liberal.
Media Matters has been advancing an ad boycott against Fox News TV host Sean Hannity, a friend of Lord’s and an active Donald Trump supporter.
OUR FREE OPINION
What happened to free speech? We think that CNN has grossly exceeded their boundaries. True, references to Nazis and Hitler are not welcome topics, but the U.S. is not a fascist country—people are empowered to speak their minds absent specific types of rhetoric that fall outside the protective umbrella of the First Amendment. Stone’s words and symbols are shielded by the Amendment. CNN has caved into the political desires of the left, further diminishing their claims of neutrality.
