Police Officer Ray Tensing
Samuel DuBose (43) was shot and killed by University of Cincinnati police officer Ray Tensing on July 19th during a routine traffic stop over a missing license plate on the front of DuBose’s vehicle. Tensing has now been indicted by a grand jury for murder. According to the New York Times,
[“At a news conference, the county prosecutor, Joseph T. Deters, said that Officer Tensing “purposely killed” Mr. DuBose after the officer lost his temper in what he called a “chicken crap” traffic stop.
“I’ve been doing this for 30 years,” Mr. Deters told reporters. “This is the most asinine act I’ve ever seen a police officer make, totally unwarranted.” A body-camera video of the shooting was also being released.”]
Tensing is looking at a life sentence if convicted according to Hamilton County Prosecutor Joe Deters, who called the killing “asinine and “senseless”. The fact that DuBose is Black and Tensing is White, has rekindled arguments concerning the treatment of minorities across the nation. Again, some people have opined, that but for the video, justice would not have been obtained. Police are bracing for unrest in the city.
