There have been 15 executions in the country so far this year. There are 9 pending executions scheduled for 2016; however, some have been delayed: The states are Texas, Oklahoma, and Ohio. If the pace stays the same, there will be only 19 executions in 2016, the lowest total since 1991.

Botched executions and drugs used during the killing process have caused delays and legal challenges. There is also a current turn against the issuance of the ultimate punishment in the country- the states of Missouri, Texas, and Georgia is at the center of death penalty activity.

California has decided to put the issue on the ballot this year. Voters will decide whether to abolish the penalty or speed the process up. There hasn’t been an execution in California in the past ten years
