On January 5th, there will be a runoff in Georgia that could decide the Republic’s fate. Georgia’s U.S. Senate elections will pit Republican Sen. David Perdue against Democrat Jon Ossoff in one race. Republican U.S. Sen. Kelly Loeffler faces Democrat Raphael Warnock in the second.
If a runoff for a general election seems unusual, it is. Georgia is one of the few states that requires the winning candidate to receive over 50% of the vote in the general election.
. Georgia’s twin U.S. Senate runoffs will bring national attention to Georgia, including expected visits by national political leaders. And local television will be filled with campaign advertising for a few more weeks.
As expected, Democrats are coming for them, with every trick in the book and a whole lot of campaign cash. Millions of dollars were already poured into the Democrat candidates’ campaigns to challenge the Republican incumbents for Georgia’s two Senate seats.
