For the past 40 years, I have heard that coffee is bad for you and that it is good for you. Which is it? Experts say drinking coffee raises your blood pressure– but also protects you from an early death – because it contains “polyphenols”– “Polyphenols are abundant micronutrients in our diet, and evidence for their role in the prevention of degenerative diseases such as cancer and cardiovascular diseases is emerging. The health effects of polyphenols depend on the amount consumed and on their bioavailability.” – according to a recent scientific article.
Although research conducted from the 1970s- 1980s concluded that coffee consumption was tied to cancer and heart disease, recent studies have debunked this notion. In a more recent study that analyzed data on 130,000 adults spanning 24 years, researchers found no evidence to support the conclusion that drinking coffee is bad for you. There is even evidence that coffee contains anticancer benefits. So drink all the coffee you want!
