LETTERMAN’S LAST PITCH FOR THE CLINTONS
David Letterman will step down from the CBS Late Show next week. The long-time liberal comedian and host had former President William Jefferson Clinton on the show Tuesday. Apart from a couple of comments about Clinton’s new grandchild, and whether Bill may be returning to the White House, the 15-minute airing mostly focused on Clinton’s herculean efforts and accomplishments obtained through his leadership at the Clinton Foundation.
From the sound of it, Bill and his organization have dramatically eased the world’s problems with AIDS, obesity and inept farming methods in third-world countries. There was no mention of Clinton’s wealth. Letterman’s obsequiousness towards Hillary’s husband could not have been more pronounced or less oblique as he actually read some of Bill’s amazing accomplishments from cue cards. The 15-minute commercial ended with Clinton saying Hillary would be right for America. There was no shame in Letterman’s game.
