Looters and Alleged Thieves Take Advantage of Abandoned Retail Stores and Residences
UPDATE: While the Owners Were Away, the Thieves Descended
Groups of looters were caught on video Sunday ransacking and looting two sporting goods stores during the hurricane in South Florida. The police displayed pictures of the suspects. A Simon’s Sportswear and Foot Locker were some of the targets of the thieves.
Also, a Broward County sheriff’s deputy shot a teenager and arrested another. The two were believed to be in the process of a burglary at a residence in Fort Lauderdale.
Police saw images of the suspects via a security camera. A teenager was taken to a hospital without life-threatening injuries.
None of the group of at least sixteen looters have been identified. They were filmed entering the store through a broken window and leaving with store merchandise. The police expect to make identifications and arrests in the near future.
