Donald Trump has indicated that he would be interested in having Ted Cruz as a running mate if he were to win the Republican nomination. Appearing on “The Laura Ingraham Show”, Trump said he liked him and “Ted Cruz is now agreeing with me 100 percent”. Both of the candidates share nearly identical positions on immigration policies, and neither of them has attacked each other during the debates and while on the campaign trails.
The two unitedly went to Washington to voice their disapproval of the Iran nuclear deal cut by the President. Trump has called the deal “incompetent while Cruz said it was a “catastrophic” deal. The fact that Cruz is Hispanic is likely important to Trump because it might help to offset Trump’s controversial comments regarding “Mexican” immigrants.
But while the merger seems appealing and possible to some, the two have independently been fiercely competing for their party’s conservative base all along. Trump has also said he might have to “go to war” with Cruz if he perceives that he is losing ground to him.
