NUDE WOMAN BRUTALLY MURDERED – CRUCIFIED ON BRIDGE – SERIAL KILLER MAY BE ON THE LOOSE

Police discovered the body of Andrea Cristina Zamfir (26) positioned in a crucified manner taped and bound to an overpass in Florence, Italy Monday; she was nude except for her sneakers and sports socks. A pool of blood directly below her body, coupled with the sound of her screams, which went unanswered, convinced police that she had been tortured. The murder fell on the heels of a recent similar gruesome attack, in the same area, against Alle Bartoline (46) who barely escaped a similar fate when bystanders came to her rescue when they heard her screams. She was found crucified on the same bridge. She described a hunch back man with a limp and little hair. Police believe Zamfir had been forced to kneel, with her arms outstretched before being bound to a horizontal beam attached to the bridge structure. There were signs of sexual trauma. Both women were known, prostitutes. Five similar attacks have recently happened in Florence and four more in neighboring Prato. It appears that the serial rapes have escalated to murder.

Some police are drawing similarities between these crimes and the gruesome murders allegedly committed by the so-called “Monster of Florence” between 1968 and 1985 where 16 people were killed. The murders occurred at the same location where Zamir’s body was found. The victims were mostly couples and were shot at point-blank range with a .22 caliber Beretta pistol. One of the victims had been stabbed 97 times, and some were found mutilated with their breasts and other body parts having been cut away and kept by the killer. The husband of the 1968 murder victim was convicted and sentenced to 14 years because of his mental deficiency. Almost identical murders continued after his arrest and in 1994 Pietro Pacciana, an itinerant farmer laborer, was convicted of murdering 7 of the 8 victims; however, his conviction was overturned and he died before his new trial. Two of his accomplices were subsequently convicted of the murders. Many people are unconvinced that the correct killer was ever caught. The cases are frequently compared to the “Jack the Ripper” murders in London in part because of the mutilation of the victims.
