Ben E. King, the legendary R & B and soul singer has did at 76. He started his career with the Drifters in the late 50’s. He had a top hit with “Stand by Me”


King singing “Stand by Me” in 1961. He had six songs in the U.S. Billboard top 40 between 1961 and 1975.

King was born Benjamin Earl Nelson on September 28, 1938 in Henderson, North Carolina and later moved to Harlem, New York when he was 9. He was close friends with Gary US Bonds who said that King was “one of the sweetest, gentlest and gifted souls that I have had the privilege of knowing and calling my friend for more than 50 years”
