A Bainbridge Island, Washington teacher has been arrested for having sex with a 16-year-old student. She is also accused of tampering with a witness because she allegedly encouraged the student to “lie like you have NEVER lied before” when he talks with investigators in the case. Jessica Fuchs (26), a science teacher at Bainbridge High School (BHS), faces charges of sexual misconduct with a minor, communicating with a minor for immoral purposes and tampering with a witness according to KIRO 7, the local television there. She was placed in jail with a $200,000 bail and her case may be heard in court as early as Monday. She was arrested after the Washington State Patrol crime lab found “a large amount of evidence” on Fuch’s computer that included Fuchs masturbating on a video she allegedly made for the student according to the Bainbridge Island Review. Fuchs was popular with the students because she was viewed by students as being a good teacher. She graduated from BHS in 2007 and graduated from Metropolitan State University in Denver with a chemistry degree in 2014. The only information on her Facebook page was that she was a Green Bay Packer fan.

* * * COMMENT: Ms. Fuchs is Presumed to be Not Guilty of any Crime. The process of charging a person with a crime requires far less evidence than proving they are guilty. She is PRESUMED TO BE INNOCENT. For an excellent description of the “presumption of innocence”, see the attached article. Also, for a fine definition of what “Beyond a Reasonable Doubt” means, see this article.
