TEEN WHO WAS ELECTED PROM QUEEN STABBED TO DEATH BY STUDENT AND DIES IN TEACHER’S LAP IN CONNECTICUT
A 16-year-old high school student and National Honor Society member was fatally stabbed by a fellow student when she allegedly rejected his offer to accompany him to the prom. Maren Victoria Sanchez was fatally stabbed inside Jonathan Law High School shortly after 7:00 a.m. yesterday and died less than an hour later at Bridgeport Hospital. A 16-year-old suspect was taken into custody and is expected to be arraigned Monday – it is unknown whether prosecutors will seek to have him certified to stand trial as an adult. A knife was recovered at the scene. A local teacher cradled Ms. Sanchez in her lap as emergency personnel was on the way. She was very popular with other students and had been recently named prom queen. Out of respect, students held a vigil dressed in their gowns and tuxedos – the prom was postponed. Sanchez was in the drama club and was a fan of American Idol singer, Phillip Phillips – Phillips tweeted his condolences to her yesterday. Milford is about an hour drive from New York City.
