Texas authorities find a two-year-old baby soaking in a five-gallon bucket of acid.
Mother claims this is not an act of filicide-- the baby drowned she says.
Texas authorities, acting on a tip, searched the apartment of Monica Dominguez (37) and Gerardo Zavala- Loredo and found a two-year-old baby soaking in a five-gallon bucket of acid.
The two are in custody charged with abuse of a human corpse, a state jail felony, and tampering with or fabricating physical evidence by altering, destroying or concealing a human corpse, a second-degree felony. Dominguez was also charged with two counts of endangering a child.
Dominguez told police that two of her children, including 2-year-old Rebecka, were bathing unsupervised when the toddler drowned in the tub Thursday, according to LMTonline. She then asked her husband to help her dispose of the body.

We expect the couple to be charged with homicide or manslaughter, likely under an aiding and abetting statute.
Filicide is the deliberate act of a parent killing their child. So far neither of the suspects have been charged with taking the life of their child.
As reported in Psychiatry, “Many terms have been used somewhat interchangeably in the description of child murder. Often, filicide refers, to any murder of a child up to the age of 18 years committed by his or her parent(s) or parental figure(s), including guardians and stepparents. Infanticide commonly applies to the murder of a child under the age of one year by his or her parent(s). Neonaticide, a term coined by Phillip Resnick in 1970, refers to the unique circumstance in which a newborn is killed by his or her parent(s) within the first 24 hours of life.6 It is important to recall that filicide can be committed by both men and women, though far less literature exists on paternal filicide than maternal filicide.”
A parent intentionally murders annually about 450 children according to USA Today.
“More than three decades of FBI homicide data shows patterns stand out when parents kill their children: Three out of four child victims are younger than 5. In 56% of all cases, fathers are the killers. In murders with multiple victims, fathers are the culprit 70% of the time,” the report adds.
Any party involved in the act of filicide is suffering from a mental illness absent some unexpected aberrational circumstance. Continued funding for mental health is critical as we have often written.
