There is a close U.S. Senate race going on in Nevada between Democrat Catherine Cortez Masto and Republican Joe Heck. Masto is a former Nevada attorney general and Heck a three-term House member and former Nevada state legislator.
Harry Reid, who has spent 30 years in the Senate is throwing his hat behind the Democratic challenger, and he is taking the election personally mainly because of his hostility towards the Koch brothers.
Mr. Reid essentially ties Heck to the Koch brothers and says the goal of the Kochs and their allies is to “turn the United States into an oligarchy with a chosen few running the nation for their personal benefit.” He adds, “Heck is an absolute stooge for these right-wing nut cases,” Mr. Reid said according to the New York Times.
Masto is receiving funding or ad help from the League of Conservation Voters and the Senate Majority PAC, a group run by Democrats with connections to Mr. Reid that has spent nearly $2.5 million on ads against Mr. Heck, the Times reports. Heck is getting cash or ad help from entities like Freedom Partners Action Fund, which relies on considerable Koch funding.
The election is very close; however, Heck has the support of Donald Trump, and Nevada is one of the swing states that still favors Trump over Clinton– Vegas odds favor Heck.
