A lawyer for President Trump has accused the special counsel, Robert S. Mueller III, of improperly obtaining emails and other records from Mr. Trump’s transition team.
“The lawyer said in a letter to Congress on Saturday that the General Services Administration, the government agency that possessed the transition team’s emails, had handed over the materials to Mr. Mueller’s investigators in August without allowing lawyers for the transition team to review them. The documents, the lawyer argued, should have been shielded by various privileges, like attorney-client privilege,” the New York Times reported.
Mueller’s office defended how the emails had been obtained. “When we have obtained emails in the course of our ongoing criminal investigation, we have secured either the account owner’s consent or appropriate criminal process,” said Peter Carr, a spokesman for the special counsel’s office,” the Times continued.
Meanwhile, several Congressmen have started to call for the firing of Mueller. Others are calling for a Congressional investigation. The Whitehouse has said they have not decided on whether they would fire the special counsel. The indication is that they are not planning on firing him for now. However, Trump said the whole thing “was pretty sad.”
President Trump’s lawyers are scheduled to meet with Mueller and members of his team next week to determine where Mueller is going with the investigation.
OUR FREE OPINION
We don’t think there should have been a special counsel in the first instance. There has never been any credible evidence to support a collusion between President Trump and the Russian Government. Leaks provided by the “Deep State,” a collection of liberal operatives fueled the notion of complicity between Trump and the Russians. Former President, Obama, did not help matters by declassifying documents that he knew would then be leaked to the press. The whole process is tarnished. Millions of tax dollars are being spent on this investigation. Trump can wait it out and not fire Mueller because nothing will be found that ties him into collusion. If he did fire Mueller, there would be a massive uproar from the left. It is unfortunate that this useless investigation was authorized from the start.
