U.S. MARSHAL KILLED IN LOUISIANA

This double-murder suspect Jamie Croom, 31, was taken into custody Tuesday morning following a shooting with U.S. Marshals at a motel, authorities said.

Jamie D. Croom, a man on the run and wanted for the alleged slayings of Lechelle Rita Williams (42), and her brother Sinica Lee Williams (38), that occurred on February 18th of this year, shot and killed deputy U.S. Marshal Josie Wells (31) today as law enforcement officers were attempting to make contact with him in Baton Rouge. Police say he fired a handgun and struck Wells who was then taken to the hospital where he died. Croom has a long criminal history and numerous arrests for crimes of violence. While in fugitive status, Croom was described by the Sheriff as the most wanted person in Pointe Coupee Parish. He was also shot and taken to the hospital where his condition is unknown at this time

Over 200 U.S. Marshals have been killed while in the line of duty since the first killing on January 11th, 1794.
